Dedicated, enthusiastic, insightful, hardworking.

A company is known by many things. One of these is its name. West Fork Environmental is a name that calls up the great rivers of our region, its canyons, range lands and settlements. As importantly it’s a name that speaks to renewal, growth and stewardship.

About Us

We are dedicated to collecting original field data and applying rigorous methodologies to address complex research and management subjects. We are convinced that our involvement in these activities supports sustainable management of natural resources, promoting economic stability in the communities that depend on them.

West Fork Environmental includes a diverse group of professionals who work full time to provide a variety of services for our partners. At West Fork Environmental, we relish the hard work required to develop good information, and pride ourselves on performing under difficult environmental conditions. We believe that learning takes place in the field, on the land, and springs from asking insightful questions, and seeking answers through careful observation and deliberate analysis of data.

Safety

Safety is a top priority at West Fork. Simply put, we owe it to ourselves, our families, our clients, and our company. Safe operations always save people, time and money.

Our History–Our Future

Phil Peterson started Forest & Channel Metrics in 2005, and with an ever expanding client and services base, changed the name of the company to West Fork Environmental in 2012. Phil is a professional fisheries biologist with thirty years of experience in Pacific Northwest water and land use issues. He has a broad applied background in fish biology and stream and riparian forest interactions. During the early years of Forest & Channel Metrics the bulk of the work was focused in this area primarily for forestry clients. As the company grew in capacity it was clear that the future included not only our forestry and fisheries base but also a wider circle of natural resource users and managers including state and federal agencies, Indian tribes, construction companies, water purveyors, dam operators, individual citizens and non-profit organizations.

With a more diverse customer base came demands for a wider offering of services and products. This trend continues today and has been the impetus for our increasingly heavy involvement in projects designed around the application of PIT tag technology to fish and wildlife research. These projects have moved the company into the design and fabrication of specialized antennas and other PIT tag products. While there is little overlap for some of the projects at both poles of the business there is considerable overlap and tremendous efficiency for many of our projects in the middle. We continue to grow all aspects of the business and find this approach satisfying professionally. It is especially effective and efficient from our client’s perspective because we vertically integrate related services and products under the West Fork name.
